Rico lived in a bright meadow where flowers swayed like dancers. He loved a floppy blue hat shaped like rabbit ears. Whenever it rested on his head, Rico felt bold, as if he could do anything at all.

He giggled, 'With my ear hat I jump super high!' Then he zipped across the grass. 'With my hat I run super fast!' Rico truly believed the blue hat held every bit of his bunny bravery.

One blustery morning a strong WHOOSH of wind raced by. The gust snatched Rico's precious hat and tossed it high. Up, up it twirled like a tiny blue kite against the clouds.

'My hat, come back!' Rico gasped, hopping after it. But the wind was quicker. Soon the hat was only a blue dot, then nothing at all. Rico stopped and let his ears droop.

Rico sighed, 'Without my hat I can't be brave. No tall jumps, no speedy dashes.' His tummy felt twisty and sad, as if all his hop had hopped away.

Flap-flap! Pia the Pigeon landed softly. 'Why the long face, Rico?' she cooed. Rico told her about the runaway hat and how his courage felt lost in the wind.

Pia blinked. 'Who did the jumping and running, the hat or Rico?' Rico wiggled his nose. 'Um… it was me,' he admitted, a tiny smile peeking out.

'Remember the big hill you climbed?' Pia smiled. Rico nodded. 'You chose that, not the hat,' she said. 'The hat only reminded you of the brave bunny you already are.'

Rico breathed deep. Maybe, just maybe, boldness really lived inside him. A warm tingle spread through his chest and made his ears wiggle with hope.

'Do you think I can still jump high?' Rico asked. 'Let's test it!' chirped Pia, flapping with excitement.

Rico crouched, wiggled, and—BOING!—shot into the air higher than ever. He landed laughing, paws wide, ears flapping like happy flags.

'See?' Pia cheered. 'Your courage wasn't in the hat. It was in Rico all along!' Rico beamed from whiskers to tail.

Sometimes Rico still missed his floppy hat, yet whenever he felt shy he tapped his chest and whispered, 'My brave bit is right here.'

From that day, Rico leapt through life with a bright heart, certain the greatest magic is the courage we all keep inside.
