Once upon a time, there was a little star named Sparkle. He loved to learn new things. One day, he asked, 'Why do children on Earth say that I twinkle?'

Page 3

Sparkle's friend, Luna, floated by. She was a bright star who loved to play. Luna said, 'Maybe they like saying your name. 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star...' It sounds nice!'

Sparkle shook his star points. 'I think there's more to it,' he said. 'I'm going to find out why!' He was determined to discover the truth.

He decided to visit Professor Radiant, the wisest star he knew. 'Professor Radiant!' Sparkle called. 'I have a question!'

Page 6

The professor smiled. 'Hello, Sparkle. What brings you here?' he asked. 'Children on Earth say I twinkle,' said Sparkle. 'But I'm not changing! Do you know why?'

Page 7

Professor Radiant said, 'Stars are big balls of fire, very far away. They shine brightly in the night sky. But their light has a long journey to reach eyes on Earth.'

Page 8

'As the light travels to Earth, it passes through the air,' the professor explained.

'The air has layers—some warm, some cool,' he said. 'This makes your light bend and dance. That's why you seem to twinkle!'

Sparkle laughed. 'My light is dancing?' he asked.

Page 11

'Yes,' said the professor. 'It's like your light does a little dance before it reaches their eyes.'

Page 12

'Oh! No wonder they think I twinkle!' Sparkle smiled.

Just then, a funny comet named Blaze zoomed by, leaving sparkling dust. 'Did someone say dance?' Blaze asked.

Page 14

Blaze did a silly spin, sprinkling stardust. 'Blaze,' Sparkle said, 'we're talking about why I seem to twinkle.' 'Oh,' said Blaze, 'if it makes kids happy, maybe I should twinkle too!'

Page 15

Feeling happy, Sparkle decided to shine even brighter. 'I may not really be twinkling,' he thought, 'but if it makes children happy, I'll keep sparkling!'

Page 16

That night, families on Earth looked up at the twinkling stars. They sang, 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are...'

Up in the sky, Sparkle smiled. He knew that even if things aren't always as they seem, they can still be wonderful.

Why Do Stars Seem to Twinkle? At night, stars seem to twinkle. But in space, they shine steadily. Earth's moving air makes their light bend. This makes stars look like they are twinkling!
